Rapidly catching vira?

When posting a twitter message the extent to which the message about the new Mac Pro spreads fast. I am wondering of anyone are aware of the extent?

My message spreads to:

a)      All my twitter friends

b)      All my facebook friends

c)       All the readers on my blog

d)      Pages cached by Google, from my blog, where my “Show-twittering” widget is still showing that Tweet.

e)      The internet archive (way back machine) as it saves a version of my blog with the twittering visible.

 This is interesting when looking af Mac Pros new campaign:

“To participate in our birthday giveaway. All you need to do is include the #moonfruit tag in any tweet on twitter. You can be creative with your tweet or re-tweet our message, don’t forget to follow @moontweet to find out if you’ve won.”

This must be said to be highly internet born vira!

I wonder if anyone has twittered / blogged or won anything? If so, please share their thoughts about it.

Of, if not, if you would have considered the extent of the spreading of the add before twittering?

Did you consider this a personal gain as you can win? Did you act without thinking, or was there a completely well considered thought behind your decision to twitter it?

Also, Tell me about your strategies?

Do you post more than one tweet? Do you think the winner will be chosen due to his/ her tweet creativity or based on the amount of clicks our your link that are made? On the popularity of your profile? Or the size of your network? Do you care? Do you balance mentioning the add with saying something you would have said anyway?

I did wonder about everything you said. It is bigger than what most of people imagine. But anyway I couldnt resist to get my chace to win the prize. In Brazil, my country, the case of viral marketing on Twitter is unbelieveble! I think it is fair if They do it well, by creative and interesting ways. But unfortunatly, most of them dont know how to do it on the right way. Apologies about my english, my native language is Portuguese and Im trying to learn english! :)

Sorry for not writing (more) in English.

My own favorite that really puts things into an interesting matter “i wish i could temporarily block all of you just so that i could spam the shit out of this with #moonfruit without making you all hate me”

@Thiago
Interesting. And how would you descriebe things that does not work in Brazil? are people talking about them in a negative way? Are they ignoring them?
Do you have any examples. I am really interested!
My theory is that even though people are talking about them in a negative way, there people might remember the adds, So the question is: Does it have to be positive?

@TwixTwine
You brought a good point to this discussion. Even if We talk in negative ways We are talking about them, so their brands will be mentioned and remembered.
But sometimes what happens is that there is too much ads and we just give up to pay atention to them.
When I said They dont do it in the “right” way in Brasil I meant It became usual very quickly and It means everybody is using Twitter with business intention. As I said before, It makes too much information and We get bored.
Answering you question: I think it really depends. It depends how negative it is.
Marketing should be used to improve brand’s image and profit. If you made a mistake once, people will give you another chance, but if you insist making mistakes sometime their loyalty will be gone. YES. IT HAVE TO BE POSITIVE. Thats what I think.

@Thiago
I think you are right. When too many adds appear people forget to be aware (or, as you say, they get borred).
Do you have any examples of an add that you really liked? I am definitely going for the positive, and, i too, believe things have to ad a good mood.
I would love to exchange nice adds. My favorite is: Worlds most wanted Wienerschnitzel

This one I like because in some odd way you almost know how awkward the situation gets. And also, it is easily shared. I can imagine most of my friends who would be amused by this. Therefore I know that, should I consider forwarding it, my friends would be more likely to smile and be happy than annoyed by me sending it.

But this meta add with Darth Wader on Viral marketing
puts the whole viral marketing concept into perspective :-)
This one is funny because it shows something on viral marketing on a meta-level be, itself, being viral marketing. It’s also a treat for Starwars fans, and As I am a huge fan, I really appreciate if someone thinks of me when seeing this one.
What’s your favorites?
